On Average, RVs are between 96″ and 102″ wide, without including mirrors or additional safety features. Keep in mind that some states do have a limit of 8.5′ or 9′, but the majority of states maintain the 102″ maximum.
What Is The Maximum Width Of An RV?
Including mirrors, the maximum width of an RV is 9 feet. This is more than 2 feet larger than the average vehicle. When considering the fact that highway roads are typically 12 feet wide, it doesn’t leave much room for RV drivers to maneuver. City streets are very narrow, sometimes as narrow as 10 feet wide.

Class B RVs
The Class B Motorhome or (Van) is basically a panel-type truck or street van, that’s stocked with motorhome style features and accommodations.

- Usable as a second vehicle when at home

Class C RVs

Although not considered a state, the District of Columbia does have a 8′ maximum for RVs. Here’s a look at all the states with a current maximum of 8′:

States With An 9′ Maximum For RVs
Massachusetts has a 9′ maximum width for motorhomes, yet keeps the standard 8’6″ maximum for trailers. This means Hawaii is the only state that currently has a 9′ maximum width regulation.
